COURSE DESCRIPTION
The course will focus on developing your understanding and application of intermediate jazz harmony concepts. Building upon the foundational knowledge gained in Jazz Harmony 1, this course will delve deeper into chord voicings, chord progressions, and harmonic analysis in the context of jazz music.
The course will cover the following topics:
- Secondary dominants
- Modes
- Modal interchange
- Reharmonization
- Guidetone Lines
- Voice Leading
- Major and Minor line cliches
- Slash chords
- Available tensions
- Advanced Blues writing
Throughout the course, students will engage in practical exercises and projects, applying their knowledge to real-world musical examples. By the end of the course, students will have a comprehensive understanding of jazz harmony and be able to confidently navigate complex chord progressions, adding depth and sophistication to their playing and compositions.
